When You Reach Me Chapter 53 Summary

Things That Blow Away

  • Miranda gets up the next morning to write the letter. She starts at the beginning, but then starts wondering why the Laughing Man had his head under the mailbox all the time.
  • She goes out to inspect and underneath finds their house key and a pencil drawing of a woman. She recognizes it as Julia.
  • Julia and Marcus! It makes sense what the Laughing Man said before: "I'm an old man, and she's gone now" (53.11).
  • Miranda knows Marcus was ready, but is sad all the same. She leaves the drawing underneath the mailbox.
