Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West Volume 5, Part 15 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Dorothy and company are approaching, so Elphaba sends out all her familiars to scope them out and guide them to the castle.
  • Unfortunately, Dorothy and her companions misinterpret all these animals and end up killing the crows, the bees, and poor Killjoy.
  • Nanny, Liir, and Elphaba watch the proceedings.
  • Then Elphaba sees something awful:

"But it was true. There was nothing but straw and air inside the Scarecrow's clothes. No hidden lover returning, no last hope at salvation." (5.15.34)

  • After losing all her animals, Elphaba finally sends her flying monkeys down to pick everyone up.
  • Liir promises to protect Elphaba from being murdered, but he won't risk Dorothy to do it.
