Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West Volume 5, Part 18 Summary How It All Goes Down
It's nighttime across Oz and we get a series of things happening as the Witch dies. In Quadling Country, a Crocodile kills a baby and is then killed in turn. In Gillikin, Grommetik is leading the machines in a Marxist-sounding revolt. Glinda is up that night; she doesn't know why she can't sleep. Frex is asleep and dreaming of Melena and Turtle Heart. Shell comes in to check on his dad. The Wizard is waiting for the end; he knows Dorothy is the sign that his time in Oz is over and he's preparing to head back to his own world: A suicide was waiting for him back in his own world. (5.18.7) Afterward, the death of the Wicked Witch of the West was widely celebrated. Dorothy brought the Miracle Elixir bottle to the Wizard and he freaked out and disappeared from Oz. There are conflicting reports about what happened to Dorothy. Liir disappeared for years to hunt for his sister Nor. Nessa's shoes also disappeared, but they spawned a huge fashion craze in Oz, with all the ladies wearing sparkly shoes. And Elphaba?: She was dead, dead and gone, and all that was left of her was the carapace of her reputation for malice. (5.18.15) We're so bummed out that we're going to go listen to the musical soundtrack to cheer ourselves up.
