Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West Volume 5, Part 6 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • So Elphaba returns to Shiz, which is now more of an industrial factory town.
  • She goes back to her old school and inquires after Madame Morrible, pretending to be a friendly old student hoping to visit her.
  • The trusting new Head of the school tells Elphaba where to find Morrible, who is ill.
  • So Elphaba goes in, but she's too late: Madame Morrible is already dead.
  • Elphaba is so fired up, though, that she yells at Morrible and beats her with a trophy before leaving.
  • In the best display of irony ever, the trophy Elphaba used to desecrate the dead reads "IN APPRECIATION OF EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE" (5.6.28).
