Persephone (Proserpine) Gossip

Spotted... on Mount Olympus or Asgard. xoxo Gossip Shmoop

Persephone's Bees is the name of a pretty rockin' band—in fact, we'd say they're the bee's knees. And if you're not convinced that it's named after our mythological friend, check this out: one of their songs is called "Queen's Night Out."

Persephone was played by Rosario Dawson in the movie version of The Lightning Thief. We'd say she does the queen justice.

"Death and the Maiden" was a popular motif in Renaissance art, and guess what? It was inspired by the myth of Persephone's abduction by Hades.

How's this for a namesake? A character named Persephone is the unhappy wife of the Merovingian, an underworld kingpin, in the Matrix: Reloaded and the Matrix: Revolutions. Fitting.

Third Eye Blind has a song called "Persephone." And just like Persephone (to whom he's singing), the singer is waiting with bated breath for spring to arrive.
