Nostromo Part 1, Chapter 3

By Joseph Conrad

Part 1, Chapter 3

  • The narrator describes the way in which Giorgio Viola, the hotelkeeper, hid from looters/revolutionaries on the day of SeƱor Ribiera's escape from Sulaco, with his family in tow. Giorgio's wife, Teresa, was apparently super annoyed that Nostromo, who lived with them, wasn't there to protect them.
  • After cowering in the house with the windows covered for a while, they heard a crowd of people running by; however, no one tried to get in.
  • Then, there was a loud bang on the shutter as Teresa started to scream. Someone from outside was shouting to get in. Ugh, creepy.
