Billie Jo plays the piano for graduation services. Or at least she tries to.
The truth is, she's out of practice and just stares at the keys, defeated, while people whisper around her. Miss Freeland starts crying and she sees Arley looking down at the floor; Billie Jo knows she's disappointed them both.
Perhaps, she thinks, the doctor could tell her how to improve her hands if her dad would only get his skin checked out. She can see, though, that this isn't going to happen.
