The Future of Us Chapter 19

By Asher, Jay and Mackler, Carolyn

Chapter 19

  • Emma and Kellan are hanging out in the library. Emma is stressing out about her future, but then she realizes something: The future changes a lot depending on what she does in the present. So if she's stressed out now, it could make her stressed out in the future. Confusing, right?
  • Emma asks Kellan if she ever thinks about her future husband. Naturally, Kellan has a theory about this—it's called The Husband Theory (19.7)—and it goes like this: If you're driving in your car and about to get in a major accident, whomever you think of first is your meant-to-be.
  • Emma is depressed thinking about Jordan Jones Jr., even though she doesn't know anything about him. Then an idea hits her: He's what's wrong with her future, so she needs to try and get rid of him.
  • She goes to the librarian and asks for the out-of-state phonebooks. The librarian directs her to the public library.
