We are about to embark on an epic journey that will take us through exponential and logarithmic functions. Try to imagine winning the lottery and putting your money into accounts that get a high percentage rate. If you don't spend it, your account will get exponentially larger. Now that's definitely a possibility for you, but not probable.
Real Life Alert: Unless you are very lucky to deal with large sums of lottery or inheritance money, the exponential growth that you might encounter is to go get a car or house loan and calculate the payments and interest. Let's try not to get too anxious, as the math in this unit has a lot of real-life connections, some great and some not so great.
We will also learn on this journey how to tell if functions are exponential growth or decay and how to graph them. We will explore inverses of exponential functions which are logarithmic functions. This will help us solve exponential and logarithmic equations. When we are done, we will be able to tackle the world...if it hasn't tackled us first with some rampant zombie virus.
