Hephaestus, the god of fire and blacksmiths, makes a brief cameo in the story of Orion. When the blind giant stumbles on Hephaestus' forge, the god helps him by telling Orion that Helios can give him his sight back. Hephaestus even sends his servant, Cadalion, to be Orion's seeing-eye dog and guide Orion to the sun god. We wonder what it is that makes Hephaestus take pity on Orion exactly. What has the giant done to deserve having his punishment taken away?
