Poetic Edda

Parts of the Poetic Edda read kind of like a who's who of the Norse gods. That's where we get all of Skadi's important stats, like her parentage (the giant Thjazi), her current residence (childhood home, Thrymheim) and her diva-worthy nickname, "the shining bride of the gods" (Grímnismál Stanza 11).

Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson

No domestic dispute is private when Snorri Sturluson, gossip columnist to the gods, is on assignment. In his Prose Edda, he gives us all the details of Njord and Skadi's split. Seems they couldn't agree on a home base. Too bad: they made a cute couple.

Heimskringla by Snorri Sturluson

If the Norse gods were real people, then they'd be the founders of an important Scandinavian dynasty. At least, that's how Snorri Sturluson tries to spin it in his Heimskringla. In the part called the Ynglinga Saga, Skadi and Njord are a Swedish king and queen in an unhappy marriage. Sounds about right.

Age of Mythology

Skadi gets a pretty awesome super power in this spin-off of the Age of Empires computer game: "Frost," or the ability to freeze a whole enemy army with a single breath. Sounds like the Skadi we all know and love.

Dumm Comics Skadi

Mix Looney Tunes, Anime, and Norse mythology, and you get Skadi, this ongoing web strip from Dumm Comics. True to form, Skadi's a stellar hunter whose goal is to hunt and eat an animal of every species on the planet. Good thing she's a crack shot with a bow and arrow.

Fear Itself

Marvel Comics creates a crossover series featuring Thor and Captain America. Other than being equally fierce (and a little scary), this Skadi doesn't bear much resemblance to the mythological one. She's the daughter of a huge Serpent whom she unleashes upon the world. Thanks a lot, Skadster.
