It helps to know what a scythe and a whetstone is, but there aren't too many challenges to this poem. Once you get your head around the fact that people used cut their grass by hand, Frost's language and presentation is as plain and straightforward as a New England barn. It's simple, it stands the test of time, and it's well worth exploring.
