College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards for Language

Language RI.4.7

Interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs, diagrams, time lines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears.

Everyone loves non-text stuff because they make information visually appealing and easier to read. This Common Core Standard attempts to make students realize that non-text stuff is awesome, too. At the same time, this standard is also here to show students how to read non-text stuff intelligently, so they don't end up misinterpreting the information it provides.
