Reading RL.4.3

Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character's thoughts, words, or actions).

This standard asks students to know the ins and outs of a character, setting, or event. For a character, what does that character want during the course of the story, and how does he or she act? For a setting, how is it described, and how do characters interact with it? For an event, what caused it, what happened during the actual event, and what did it lead to? Those are the questions students should be able to answer, while also pointing at specific places in a text.
