Speaking and Listening W.3.2

Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

That's right—let's not spoil them and just ask for their opinions all year. We also need to prepare them for informative writing. This type of writing helps teach a different way of thinking and processing of information. Students who master this skill should be able to teach someone—via writing—from scratch a.k.a. as if the reader knows nothing about the topic.

This substandard is great for processes, how-to, cause and effect, and nearly any class—science, history, math, English—you name it, they can hit the books on it.
