It is important to know when you or others have the right-of-way, but you must never assume that everyone else is following the same rules by which you are abiding. Be wary, and proceed with caution at all times, as many drivers view a stop sign as a “pause sign” and look at yield signs as suggestions. Be especially cautious when pulling up to an intersection at the same time as a Hummer, as the person driving it is most likely an idiot.

What about an open intersection? Ya know, one that features no stop signs or signals on any corner. First off, you should obviously yield the right-of-way to any vehicle already in the intersection. The right-of-way should also be yielded if you are entering or crossing a state highway from a secondary road, if you are entering a paved road from an unpaved road, or if you plan on making a left turn and a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction. Also, when two cars arrive at an open intersection at the same time, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right. But don’t worry; dreams can sometimes come true, and someday YOU might be the driver on the right. We would be so proud.
