Duke University

About Me

Intro

Few things come to mind faster when you hear the words "Duke University" than basketball. What can I say? It's in my blood. We've been NCAA champs and always seem to remain in the top five in the country, so we tend to get a little (deservedly) braggy about it.

If basketball isn't your thing, then you'll probably love my amazing Greek life on campus. About a third of my students are in frats or sororities, so it's a big deal around town. Even if you don't rush one yourself, you're bound to end up at cruising through a toga party or two.

At Duke, we know how to par-tay like it's 200BC, but that doesn't mean we're always letting loose. Sure, we look for a good time, but we know how to hit the books when it matters. There's a reason we're ranked within the top ten universities in the country again and again. Our Ivy League status is only half the story.

My students are passionate. They work hard and play hard.

Name

Blue Devils. We didn't get the name by playing nice on the court.

Hometown

Durham, North Carolina. Nickname: Bull City.

Birthdate

1853

Body Type

Call me big and beautiful. At times, I feel almost like a castle. I've got over 6,000 students, but they've got a 9,000-acre playground so no one ever feels cramped.

Current Living Situation

I like to create a community vibe, so all of my students have to live on campus during the first three years. The freshmen live in their own little dorms on East Campus so they can get to know each other and build tight friendships. Aww…

Relationship Status

It's no secret that University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC) and I have a love-hate relationship…except without the love. Our rivalry goes pretty deep, especially during basketball season. So don't get caught wearing "Carolina blue." It's "Duke blue" all the way, baby. You've got to know your blues around here.

Religion

Way back in 1838, Methodist and Quaker families hired a teacher for their kids. About twenty years later, they got some state funding from North Carolina and started Trinity College, which eventually became Duke University. I've still got a swanky chapel with services for anyone who's interested.

Politics

Sure, I lean a little to the left like a lot of other universities, but no more than average. You might call me liberal, but I like to think I'm more middle of the road than anything.

You should apply to me if...

you're passionate about school, basketball, and disliking all UNC fans.
