Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

About Me

Intro

I was once called "The Harvard of the Skies" by Time Magazine and I haven't let that tagline go since. #Sorrynotsorry, because it's true. I'm the only university out there for anything and everything that has to do with aviation and space. If it flies, either with wings or rocket engines, I've got it covered.

My students range from nerdy to nerdier, and they study aeronautical science (known to everybody else as "pilot stuff"), aerospace engineering, meteorology, air traffic control, aviation business, electrical engineering, engineering physics…you get the idea. I'm literally full of rocket scientists here.

I've also got ways of relax my brain, though, and it's easy to find stuff to do outside of the classrooms, since my main campus is only minutes from the beach and I'm practically attached to the Daytona Speedway.

Plus, spring break lasts for at least a month or more around here. College students from around the nation head to Daytona Beach to party all March long, so it's easy to just hop on over to a beach party after a class or training flight.

Name

Ernie the Eagle

Hometown

Sure, my campus might look a bit like Golden Girls meets the Jetsons, but most people pay attention to the sky since my main campus in Daytona Beach, Florida has the Daytona International Airport runway attached to it. If you're not as into the Florida humidity as I am, that's okay—I have a smaller campus in Prescott, AZ.

Birthdate

1926, as an aviation school. My parents are an entrepreneur and a barnstormer. Yeah, that's right, a barnstormer.

Body Type

I'm small but feisty. I have nearly 5,000 undergraduates and about 600 graduate students in my Daytona Beach campus. That may seem small, but it's huge compared to my teeny tiny Prescott campus, which doesn't even have 2,000 undergraduates and barely fifty graduate students. Dude, have a protein shake or something.

At both campuses, you'll start to recognize the same students over and over again walking around campus, chowing down at Props and fighting for parking. Although, I think in Prescott you'd get sick of each other pretty quick. I mean, there are high schools larger than that. Stick to Daytona.

Current Living Situation

My Daytona Beach campus has a variety of dorms, ranging from new and fully decked out with mini-fridges and private bathrooms like Apollo Hall, to the downright motel-like, should've-been-torn-down-years-ago dorms like McKay hall. Doolittle Hall is the most traditional dorm with shared bathrooms on each floor and block construction. It has the best location, though, so it's not all bad.

Most students have already signed their lives away to pay for tuition, so a lot of them decide to save money by living off campus in one of the many apartment complexes. Seriously, there are so many off-campus housing options that they're running out of apartment names—I mean, Lake Forest apartments and Forest Lake apartments? That's a dyslexic's worst nightmare.

Also, nearly every complex has a pool and most are only a few minutes away. Can't beat that.

Relationship Status

When it comes to aviation, there really isn't any other university that can compare to me. I have a few rivals in the sporting world, but nobody really cares all that much about NAIA sports anyway. Honestly, most of my relationship drama comes from within. My three huge ROTC detachments duke it out every year and they take it pretty seriously.

You should apply to me if...

you have a fascination for anything aeronautical and care more about your education than parties or hot dates.
