Adjuster

Categories: Insurance, Tax, Retirement

A car accident is never pleasant, no matter whose fault it was, but a claims adjuster plays a key role in making the process go as smoothly as possible.

You've probably seen the TV commercials of some subpar actor, battered and bruised from a car wreck, thanking a Higher Power that his insurance company exists.

The adjuster is not your chiropractor. Rather, she is the representative from your insurance company who interviews you and any witnesses, looks over police reports and hospital records, and comes out to inspect your car, house or whatever incurred the damage.

You might think this would be the perfect time to get that old dent on your bumper fixed, but a good claims adjuster will recognize an old accident from a new one. This is the person who recommends how much you will get back on your insurance claim, so it pays to be nice—and honest.
