Average Daily Float

Average daily float can apply to both the banking industry and the stock market. In the banking industry, there are always outstanding checks floating around. The dollar amount of these checks during a specific amount of time is the average daily float.

In the stock market, this is the number of shares of a stock that can be bought on any given day. They’re there, and ready to be purchased. (Sorry, friend. This isn’t how far you floated on last weekend’s raft trip. But that was a fun trip despite the hangover, right?)
