Batch Processing

Typically utilized for reporting purposes, large-scale invoice/record generation, payroll or end-of-cycle processing, batch processing, as the name would suggest, involves processing various transactions as a group, rather than individual, or "transaction" processing.
As companies have merged and grown over time, batch processing has become a standard method of organizing data and generating reports, bills, etc. Processing is often done overnight, as there is the least amount of business activity going on at this time, and all the goings-on of the business day have concluded.
So if you wanted to buy a $5 TV package add-on that provided 24-hour coverage of the kennel for Kim Kardashian's Pomeranian (because you know there are people who would subscribe to that), the monthly bill would be processed in a batch, along with those for the countless others with apparently nothing better to do.
