Blanket Recommendation

A blanket recommendation, a.k.a. a non-personalized recommendation, is what everyone hates. It’s like when you get a spam email about how you can save money on your mortgage when, um...you don’t even have a mortgage. Or when you’re about to retire with your safe and plentiful retirement accounts full of bonds, and someone tries to get you to invest in some risky stocks.

A blanket recommendation usually refers to some financial professional (or so they call themselves) trying to sell their clients some particular security that they don’t necessarily want, based off of their investment goals and risk tolerance.
