Bureau Of Public Debt

Categories: Metrics, Econ, Education

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a government bureau that would gather together everyone’s debt and then pay it off for us?

The Bureau of the Public Debt, now part of the Fiscal Service of the U.S. Treasury, borrows all the money needed to run the federal government...selling Treasury bonds, bills, and notes...plus the ever-popular U.S. Savings Bonds.

Trying to account for all the country’s debt each day is a bit like trying to hit a rapidly moving target, but they certainly have a lot pf practice. Today, the Bureau also provides administrative and IT services to other federal agencies. Meaning that they have really fat n' happy computers that count tons of beans...fast.
