Buy The Book

  

In the prehistoric days of trading before computers, a broker would keep a record, or “book,” of all the shares owned for a particular stock. When someone “buys the book,” they are purchasing all the available shares from that broker at the current market price.

A large institutional investor with deep pockets would most likely be the buyer for a buy the book transaction, and this purchase could increase the price at which other investors are willing to sell.
