Certified Fund Specialist - CFS

Everyone likes to feel special. It helps if you have a piece of paper that says how special you are, like a participation certificate or a handprint on construction paper that reminds you that you’re just as good as everyone else.

Well, in finance, some people are better than others at what they do. And Certified Fund Specialists have a piece of paper from the Institute of Business and Finance that says the recipient is a hotshot expert in mutual funds, and in the business of mutual funds.

This exam, which makes you a CFS, dates to 1988, making it one of the oldest tests in the business. It's not cheap, which helps create its aura of exclusivity. The price tag for the certification: $1,365, after you add up everything from applications and tuition...to books and the picture frame that will house the very special diploma.
