Chamber Of Commerce

Categories: Tax, Econ, Regulations

There's a Chamber of Horrors. Great ride at Tussaud's Wax Museum, Disneyland and Congress. But a chamber of commerce is usually quite different. What is it? Well, it's a local group organized to promote business interests in the area. The group can act as a spokesperson for the businesses in the area and provide networking opportunities. (They might, say, oppose a tax increase proposed by the city council because it would chase away business.)

Members can be business owners or people in the area interested in the economic events in their area. Businesses can join their Chamber of Commerce in order to make their business more visible, to network or to promote themselves.

Betty of Betty’s Bakery might join her local chamber of commerce to take part in local festivals, donating treats to fair booths and getting her logo slapped on a parade float. It’s all publicity and brand awareness for her business and the chamber of commerce can give her the platform she needs.
