CINS Number

Negotiable securities issued in the US have CUSIP numbers for tracking and identification purposes in the secondary market. A CINS (CUSIP International Numbering System) number is an extension of CUSIP for identification of these securities issued outside of North America.

ISIN (International Securities Identification Number) were used previously in the US and are still used in the rest of the world. Standard and Poor’s manages the CINS platform for CUSIP and ISIN for others, as the codes are not interchangeable.

We all have ID numbers as well; the majority of us have one each of the best known versions, which are the Social Security number and the Driver’s License number. Provided we were able to parallel park.
