Clearing House

Categories: Trading, Stocks, Bonds

Not to be confused with "cleaning house," which involves, uh...firing everyone.

In general, a clearing house is a place to gather things together. Like how the front yards in a trailer park serve as a clearing house for old auto parts.

On Wall Street, the term has a specific meaning related to trading. The clearing house serves as the middleman between buyers and sellers in the financial markets. It settles the trades and keeps the appropriate data.
