Closed Economy

Categories: Econ, International

A very lonely country. A closed economy is one with no exports or imports. The system is self supporting.

This tends to exist more as an academic idea than as a description of anything in nature...like a perfect circle or an honest politician. Even closed-ier economies (like in North Korea) are not completely closed.

Maybe you could argue Earth as a whole is a closed economy, because we aren't buying dilithium crystals from the Vulcans just yet. But that said, things like the gold and uranium we have were originally produced in dying stars. Meanwhile, we import energy and light from the sun, while exporting radio signals and old space probes. So yeah, it's hard to find a truly closed economy.
