Collection-Proof

Confusingly, this sounds a little like providing proof that a collection has been accomplished. Like, "no, I don't owe that money anymore. I have the collection proof here in my files."
It's actually kinda the opposite.
"Collection-proof" is debt-collection business jargon for a person who has no income and no seizable assets. Judgments can still be brought against them, but there's no legal way to enforce them, because the person has nothing of value to repossess or put a lein on...at least not legally.
You could say that being collection-proof provides one of the few examples of the benefits of...having nothing. It's also the reason why most payday loan rates are so high...the companies have no recourse to collect if they get stiffed on the repayment.
