Common currency is currency that’s just...common. It’s not some obscure currency, like cryptocurrency in its infancy.

If you hear “common currency” being used in more formal, economic terms, it's probably just meant to say that the currency is the same between two or more countries (or other types of geographical areas). For instance, the EU has a common currency among its many countries.
