Comparison Universe

A comparison universe is an assortment of like things gathered to compare one to another (Honeycrisp to Granny Smith), or one to the whole ("A" compared to the whole alphabet).

In financial terms, a comparison universe could be grouping fund managers with similar investment styles or portfolio types (small cap investments, for example) to gauge the performance of one money manager against his or her peers.

A good ‘ol cage match, so to speak. All walk in, only one walks out the winner.
