Debt Issue

When you sell a bond, you sell debt. Or rather, you issue debt.

A debt issue in this sense refers to a specific and particular offering. Like...many companies offer myriad debt series in their endless trudge to raise cash. Comcast is generally reverred as the world champion with some 87 different debt issue offerings. Some mature sooner. Some mature later. Some are backed by their physical plant in the ground, i.e. the cable wires. Other debt issues are just debentures, backed only by their handshake to pay it back.

With so many different flavors of debt, being sure it's the right issue you're referring to is a big deal. Miss that little detail and you could end up with a bunch of useless paper...and bankrupt.
