Debtonation

UK-based economics author Ann Pettifor has a financial blog called "Debtonation," which makes many of her essays and observations on finance, and particularly sovereign debt, available to readers worldwide. A Keynesian economist, Pettifor is also a director of Policy Research in Macroeconomics (PRIME), which offers Keynesian interpretations and proposed solutions for global economic issues.

Pettifor is best known for her collaboration with U2’s lead singer, Bono, in Jubilee 2000, which was a campaign for the large industrialized nation to forgive Third World sovereign debt. Bono’s rock star profile gave Jubilee 2000 substantial publicity, and Bono was able to win over President George W. Bush and members of Congress, including Senator Jesse Helms, to ultimately cooperate in forgiving $100 billion of debt owed by some of the world’s poorest countries.
