Deficit Hawk

Finance zoos a lot of animals. It’s like a medieval forest. There are bears and bulls on Wall Street. Sometimes there are pigs. And you’ll also find some hawks and some doves.

Hawks want to get aggressive. Doves just want to let things be. In terms of the deficit, or the amount of money the government spends beyond its revenue, a hawk wants to cut the gap down...ideally to zero.

Deficit hawks are the ones always pushing for a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Deficit doves are always getting their office bathrooms retiled. You'll hear the hawk-v-dove discussion bandied about when it comes to the Fed's interest rates policy, and as it relates to defending the dollar internationally. Squawk.
