Direct To Consumer Advertising (DTC Advertising)

Direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising is just what it sounds like: companies showing what they’ve got product-or service-wise directly to their would-be customers.

You might have seen a TV...read a magazine...tuned into the radio...had a Facebook, Twitter, or Snapstagram account, perhaps? These outlets are all forms of DTC advertising.

DTC advertising is often used in reference to pharmaceutical companies. You know those commercials of generic-looking people frolicking through some field with a puppy and some kids, meanwhile listing off a bunch of cringe-worthy side effects as fast as they can, hoping you will ignore them? It used to be that doctors were the middleman between pharmaceutical companies and consumers, but with all these infomercials telling you to “ask your doctor about x-drug,” that’s no longer the case with DTC advertising. Just ask your doctor.
