Distribution Yield

You invested in some form of a closed-end or private investment partnership. You're trying to compare your results in this fund with the results you might have had, had you simply bought the ticker: SPY index fund. The cash distributed from the investment fund goes in the numerator, and the total amount you invested goes in the denominator.

The calculated fraction is your distribution yield.
