Too many bureaucrats. You, the new CEO, brought in by hostile shareholders and a board of directors, sick of a lousy stock price. So you had 1,600 bureaucrats. You downsized the number to 600, with 500 being replaced by robots and the rest...well, turns out you didn't need 'em. Who knew?

Downsizing is a common thing in corporate America...and as robots get to be a real and serious Thing, you'd expect a whole lot more downsizing, as jobs for those unskilled in math become few and far between.
