Empire Building

The famous skyscraper in New York is the Empire State Building...so don't get confused there. Empire building, in this context, is more general. Like building an empire. (And wasn't that an HBO series or something?)

Okay, so...it's a move that executive types sometimes do within companies. They try to obtain power and responsibility within an organization, turning their little fiefdoms ("I'm head of purchasing") into an empire ("I've convinced the bosses to combine purchasing and logistics and put me in charge").

The process can also be done by companies. Amazon has been empire building for a couple decades now. Disney, too. Like the Romans in the ancient world or Spain during the conquest of America or Britain during the 19th century, they're gobbling up as much around them as they can.

But can Julius Caesar deliver our dog food overnight? Did Queen Isabella make Ant-Man or Venom? Amateur empire builders at their best.
