Engagement Letter

The end of any good Jane Austen novel:

I know our first meeting was fraught with misunderstanding, but my affection for you has grown exponentially in the time we were thrust together in London this season and, despite the melancholy I experienced as a result of my shattered engagement to Miss Tomlinson, the breaking of that encumbrance has opened my life, and my heart, to your fruitful endearment. Please take to heart my warmest entreaties to matrimony.

Not a dry eye in the house.

In finance terms, it's the document used to hire certain professionals, especially lawyers and accountants. Basically, it lays out the relationship the lawyer or accountant will have with the client. It defines duties and responsibilities. It's signed by the client and the firm receiving it, and represents the contract for hiring the professional.

Okay...we're pretty weepy over that one, too.
