Family of Funds

A bunch of mutual funds bundled together under a single brand name.
Think about a family at Thanksgiving: grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, all sorts of cousins...everyone gathered around the turkey feast. Call them the Andersons.
Now, replace each person with a mutual fund. Grandma becomes a Biotech Equity Fund. Grandpa becomes a Gold Bugs Fund. Aunt Millie becomes a Russian Bond Fund. Uncle Philbert becomes a Tech Bear Fund. They all still fall under the Anderson unbrella. The Anderson Family of Funds.
The advantage of having multiple funds is that the company's brokers can pitch the different funds to different people, based on their varying investment goals.
So someone walks into Anderson Financial one day and says they really want some capital appreciation. So the Anderson broker steers them to Anderson's Grandma Biotech Equity Fund.
Later in the day, someone else comes in, looking to diversify their portfolio into some overseas holdings, and into something other than stocks. Well, they're perfect for the Anderson Aunt Millie Russian Bond Fund.
