FANG Stocks

No, not a sector dedicated to blood products and manufacturers of silk-lined capes. "FANG" in this case represents an acronym for four of the most high-profile new economy stocks: Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google.
Sometimes, people get expansive (and a little Dutch about it), turning FANG into FAANG. The extra "A" here is for Apple.
Of course, in 2015, the company that owns Google changed its name to Alphabet. So, to be accurate, there should be a third "A" and no "G"...FAAAN. Which, when said outloud, closely resembles what it sounds like when someone says the word "fan" while talking directly into a fan.
But the ticker for Alphabet remains "GOOG" (at least as of 2021), meaning that there's enough justification for keeping the original name of "FANG." Or "FAANG," depending on whether Apple is invited to the party or not.
