Fiscal Localism

“Buy local!” is the OG form of fiscal localism.

Fiscal localism is the philosophy and institutions supporting the local exchange of money, including local spending, borrowing, taxation, and currency.

Besides buy-local campaigns, local credit unions, community centers, and even local currencies (see: Berkshares of Massachusetts) are all forms of fiscal localism. Those supporting decentralized economy philosophies (those against “big government”) are most certainly fiscal localists.

As globalization continues to grow, fiscal localism is becoming cool. Ish.
