A forex broker is, shockingly, someone who brokers foreign currencies.

Let's say you're a coffee bean buyer, and you need a boatload of Brazilian cruzedos. You can't buy the coffee in Brazil with U.S. dollars. You have to buy it with their local currency, so you need to find a broker to get you some of that fine Brazilian...bean.
