Golden Hello

Categories: Company Management

When it comes to designing beach towels, we’re the best in the game. Motifs, color combinations, texture—we do it all, and our beach towel creations are second to none. In fact, we’re so good that we’ve been voted the nation’s top CTO—that’s “Chief Towel Officer,” for the uninformed—four years in a row.

Since we’re kind of a big deal and we know it, we’re not totally shocked when our company’s top competitor, Terrycloth Dreams, tries to recruit us to become their CTO. What does surprise us is that they’re offering us a $50,000 signing bonus if we agree to come work for them.

This is what’s known as a “golden hello:” a financial incentive offered by a firm to convince someone to take a job with them.

$50K is a nice chunk of change; depending on what else Terrycloth Dreams is offering, and depending on how much we love (or don’t love) our job with our current company, we might just decide the incentive is enough for us to switch organizations.
