Government Security

A government security is any bond or security issued by the U.S. Treasury and backed up and guaranteed by the U.S. government. It's another way you can invest your money—and another way (besides your taxes) that the government can raise money.

Examples of government securities include T bills, T bonds, T notes (seeing a pattern yet?), and savings bonds.
