Held At The Opening

Categories: Trading, Regulations

There's a detailed description under this heading in the kama sutra.

This kind of "held at the opening" has to do with stock trading. When big news is pending about a particular company, sometimes the stock exchange suspends trading in the stock. The goal is to give the news a chance to disseminate a bit before traders react. It limits the screaming and slamming of phones and pulling-out of hair. (It doesn't prevent all of it...but it does limit it).

If the suspension happens at the start of the trading day (the opening, as it were), then the stock is said to be "held at the opening."
