Higher Education Act of 1965 – HEA

Categories: Education, Tax

When California legalized marijuana, many Googlers searched for this term and, well, ended up in the wrong place.

In fact, the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) was made to give financial aid to college students, and bulk up college educational resources.

HEA has six titles, stating that HEA funding is meant to go towards funding higher education, college libraries, strengthening developing institutions, assisting students with scholarships, low-interest loans, and work-study programs, improving the quality of teaching, and improving undergraduate instruction.

If you’re familiar with Pell grants and Stafford loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), these are some of the ongoing programs from the Higher Education Act of 1965. We just keep on going higher and higher...into student debt, for better or worse.
