Incubation

A chicken does this with her egg. Or...the hen does, anyway.

Same goes for small companies seeking to be big ones some day. Many go through an incubation period, during which they're still beating on their product, trying to make it work, scale, bill the people who bought whatevers instead of billing someone else's credit card randomly.

Incubation generally refers to a very fragile, baby, weak and new company which is very...egg, and not very angry chicken...yet.
