Independent 401(k)

See: 401(k).
You get a job at a big corporation. You now exist as an interchangeable cog in the giant corporate apparatus, devoid of any recognized individuality. But in return for surrender to the hive-mind, you get some bennies...health insurance, paid vacation, retirement savings through a 401(k).
This last benefit isn’t only available to employees of large companies, however. You can put money away for retirement as a sole proprietor using an independent 401(k). Sometimes called an individual or solo 401(k), these accounts let you invest funds for retirement, with the government offering some tax advantages to help the money grow.
Of course, any matching funds would also just come from your pocket. But you avoid the hive-mind thing.
